Peterborough
Peterborough is a vibrant town of 6,100 residents located along the Contoocook River and Nubanusit Brook in the Monadnock region of southwestern New Hampshire, known for its natural beauty and emphasis on the out-of-doors.
Often referred to as having "postcard charm", our town has a thriving center featuring small shops, businesses, restaurants, art galleries, a grocer, an organic market, churches, banks, the oldest public library, an historical society, and a museum of world cultures.
Education and culture are an important part of life in our community. The town is home to the renowned MacDowell Colony, which is over 100 years old; and Peterborough Players, the oldest operating summer theater in the country.
Sustainability is also important to Peterborough: recently, the town installed the largest solar array in the state of New Hampshire as part of an energy collaborative.
Peterborough is surrounded by mountains and over 200 lakes and rivers, and prides itself on a strong commitment to its natural resources and to the arts community that thrives here.
